Few painters alive today have the ability to capture mood and atmosphere as well as impressionist Royo. His use of sweeping brush strokes and bold swaths of color have been compared to the old masters, and the appeal of his work extends from first-time collectors to the world’s most prestigious art connoisseurs. With a style that is both classical and unique, Royo has received some of art’s highest honors.

Born in Valencia, Spain in 1945, Royo began demonstrating his artistic ability at the early age of 9, where he showed a remarkable talent for drawing, painting, and sculpture. At the age of 14, he was admitted to the prestigious San Carlos Royal Academy of Fine Arts, where he soon began receiving accolades. But even then, he was embarking on a new artistic journey—to capture the light, shadows, and intensity of his newest subject: the Mediterranean.

By the 1990s, Royo had cemented himself as one the world’s greatest living artists. But as he continued to perfect his form, his texture, and his use of dramatic color, his name was again mentioned along with the great masters. His concentration on painting—the female form in particular—had critics comparing him to perhaps the most loved impressionist, Pierre-Auguste Renoir.

Today, Royo’s ability to capture the dramatic essence of his subjects remains unparalleled. His work continues to be the standard for a new generation, and has proven to be some of the most collectible art in the world.
