1912 Red Sox World Series Trophy to be Auctioned

This 1912 photo made by Carl Horner and released July 24, 2012,by Heritage Auctions in Dallas shows the world champion Boston Red Sox team posing with two silver World Series trophies along the first base line in Fenway Park in Boston. The trophy on the left, presented to manager Jake Stahl, front row fifth from left, is scheduled to be auctioned along with this photo on Aug. 2, 2012, at Camden Yards in Baltimore. The trophy on the right was presented to team owner James McAleer, sixth from left front row, and is presumably lost to history. Also in the photograph is Boston Mayor John "Honey Fitz" Fitzgerald, fourth from left front row, grandfather of President John F. Kennedy. AP Photo/Carl Horner, via Heritage Auctions.

The 1912 Boston Red Sox World Series trophy presented to team manager Jake Stahl is going on the auction block.

The sterling silver trophy will be auctioned Aug. 2 at Camden Yards in Baltimore during a national sports collectors convention.

The trophy’s current owner is Red Sox fan Robert Fraser. He says several companies wanted to auction it off for the 100th anniversaries of the team’s World Series win against the New York Giants and the opening of Fenway Park. The Westwood, N.J., real estate broker says he and his wife paid $74,000 for it in 2007.

Dallas-based Heritage Auctions says it expects the trophy will fetch more than $300,000.
